Bird
By Snow is Fletcher Tucker, gifted multi-instrumentalist
and home-taper from Northern California. By way of todays
lexicon one might categorize Bird
By Snow
as Lo-fi Indie (or maybe Freak-folk), but more
poetic and broadminded record stores may well create sections
exclussively for this band. White plastic cards reading
"Trancendental Beach-Grunge," or maybe
"Psychic Mountain-Dub" or perhaps even
"Song-Bread for the Starving Children of the Zeitgeist."
Tucker himself, however, prefers to label his music simply
as "What I believe in," and sometimes
as the less pretentious "Songs by Dude."
In
2005 Gnome Life Records released the bands first
LP "Antlers and the Sun and All the Things That
Grow Old and Pass Away" on limited edition, transparent-red
vinyl. In 2006 Gnome Life pressed Bird By Snow's
first single, "Industrial Collapse,"
followed shortly after by a second LP, "Sky,"
Fletcher's most compositionally, and emotionally dense work
to date. "Sky" has been decorated with
critical acclaim for its fine song-craft, and genre bending
(referenced above)... "Fleshed out with field recordings
and more real, desolate charm than ever before, this is
a record of great intrinsic worth, and manages to do something
new and consistent within a genre largely held together
by image and one-trick skills. Incredible and very worthwhile."

Bird
By Snow
records illuminate wooly-sound-worlds, infinite song-scapes,
and fictional universes expanding in your ears. But in concert
Bird
By Snow
is rarely more than one man, with one instrument (guitar,
banjo, autoharp, etc.), engaged in spontaneous moments of
ecstatic giving. Present with you in the world, singing
some songs he made up!
Bird
By Snow
has been performing and recording since 2001. Traveling
the U.S. on several tours and occasioning to share the stage
with many lovely people along the way... Julie Doiron,
the Microphones / Mt. Eerie, Josephine Foster, Alasdair
Roberts, Little Wings, Karl Blau and many more. In
Spring 2007 Tucker took flight on his first European tour,
with concerts in Iceland, the UK, France, Belgium, Germany,
the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway and Denmark! Finding his
wings still needed a good stretch Bird By Snow gathered
with his other Gnome Life friends, and went right
back to Europe in November 2007, performing in Iceland,
Spain, Norway and Sweden, touring this time in
support of the European CD release of "Sky,"
out now, on the lovely Swedish label Kning
Disk.
